TAWI-TAWI – 1-day ahead of May 9, 2022 elections, the PNP operatives in Tawi-Tawi thwarted the attempt of unidentified armed individuals who were suspected to disrupt the elections in the municipality of Sapa-Sapa, Tawi-Tawi on May 8, 2022.
Reports from PMaj Winston Botengan, Chief of Police of the Sapa-Sapa Municipal Police Station disclosed that about 1:50 P.M of May, 8, 2022, Sapa-Sapa MPS responded to an information regarding the presence of more or less 150 unidentified individuals who were reportedly staying at the residence of a local candidate at Barangay Top-Top, Banaran, Sapa-Sapa town. Thereat, the responding PNP elements were about to inquire when a group of individuals suddenly scattered and fled in different directions which prompted the responding police to chase after them.
Responding unit recovered 10 High Powered Firearms, 1 Short firearm, 1 baseball bat, and other assorted deadly weapons (bolo/knife).
Sapa-Sapa MPS is now conducting thorough investigation. The pieces of evidence recovered are now placed under the custody of Sapa-Sapa MPS for proper disposition.
