As PRO BAR strives to fulfill its mandate of eliminating the proliferation of loose firearms and disband private armed groups in order to ensure a secure, accurate, free, and fair May 9, 2022 National and Local Elections, joint elements of Bongao MPS, Regional Intelligence Unit 9, Tawi-tawi PIT, Maritime Police Station – Tawi-Tawi, and RMFB Basulta successfully ushered the surrender of five (5) members of Alvarez Group, DI-listed Potential Private Armed Group (PPAG), in Brgy. Pag-Asa, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi on April 5, 2022.
Report from Bongao Municipal Police Station disclosed that the "Alvarez Group", also known as the "Seven Dwarf Group", was formerly led by Alrashid Alvarez alias "Al" who died with the other two (2) members in their last encounter with the authorities in December 2015. The group has remained dormant since its leader was killed in the incident.
After the efforts of the law enforcement units, an alias "Gajir Gabir" and the other three (3) members of the Alvarez Group, including the newly identified one (1) female member, surrendered to the government in order to have their names removed from the DI-list of PPAGs and to live a peaceful, orderly, and progressive life together with their families.
The group handed one (1) Caliber .45 pistol and one (1) magazine with one (1) live ammunition which was turned over to the Bongao Municipal Police Station for safekeeping and proper disposition.
The surrenderers were later released and reintegrated back into their communities where they will be closely monitored by the authorities to ensure that they continue to abide by the law.
PBGen Arthur R. Cabalona, Regional Director, PRO BAR, praised the collaborative effort of the law enforcement units that resulted in the successful surrender of the aforementioned group.
Further, PRO BAR is committed to dismantle the remaining other armed groups to maintain peace and order in the region, especially for the forthcoming national and local elections 2022.
