    COTABATO CITY – PRO BAR police arrested two individuals on the first day of Election Period, January 9, 2022, for violating COMELEC Gun Ban during the conduct of separate COMELEC Checkpoints in Cotabato City.

     Cotabato City Police Office (CCPO) identified the violators of the Omnibus Election Code as Federico Rebollosa Bolongaita, 32 years old, male, single, driver and a resident of B24 L2 Palmerston North Subdivision, Lambingan Tanza, Cavite and Romy Salipada y Ara 42 years old, married, and a resident of Barangay Dimasangka, Labangan, Zamboanga Del Sur.
    Mr. Bolongaita on board four wheeler cargo truck was flagged while passing the COMELEC Checkpoint established in Poblacion 1, Cotabato City, when accosted, one (1) unit caliber .45 Norinco pistol was noticed in plain view inside said truck. Pertinent documents on the suspect’s authority to carry said firearm outside his residence was asked, however no Certificate of Authority (CA) issued by the Committee on the Ban on Firearms and Security Concerns (CBFSC) was presented prompting the personnel of City Mobile Force Company, CCPO to cause the arrest.
     Similarly, Mr. Salipada onboard Montero Sport SUV was flagged by personnel of 1404th Regional Mobile Force Company at the COMELEC Checkpoint established in Barangay Balabaran, Cotabato City, when one (1) unit caliber .45 Colt pistol was noticed in plain view inside said vehicle, however, said person failed to present CA.
     Arrested individuals and confiscated firearms and ammunition were turned over to Cotabato CPO for proper disposition and filing of appropriate charges.
    PBGen Eden T Ugale, Regional Director, PRO BAR, commended the efforts of the law enforcers in Cotabato City for their strict implementation of the Comelec gun ban, likewise reminds the public to adhere to the directives of the Omnibus Election Code to avoid inconvenience.
