Tawi-Tawi – PRO BAR operatives rescued three Indonesian fishermen from sea mishap and arrested alleged two members of Abu Sayyaf Group at the shore of Pasigan Laut, South Ubian, Tawi-Tawi on March 18, 2021.

            Police report from Tawi-Tawi Police Provincial Office disclosed the identities of the rescued victims as: a. ARIZAL KASTA MIRAN, male, 30 years old; b. ARSAD Bin DAHLAN, male, 41 years old; and c. ANDI RISWANTO, male, 26 years old, and all are residents of Kabupaten Wakatobi municipality, Sulawesi Tengara, Indonesia while arrested alleged ASG members were identified as Suhud Salasim a.k.a Ben Wagas, 45 years old, resident of Maimbung, Sulu and Bensar Jakari, also known as Enjemar Mankabong, male, 41 years old and resident of Patikul, Sulu .

            Based on report, at about 4:30 PM of March 18, 2021, Tandubas MPS received information from a concerned citizen that there were survivor victims of sea mishap along the shore of Pasigan Laut, South Ubian, Tawi-Tawi. Immediately, personnel of Tandubas MPS led by Police Captain Al Kenneth E Cayanga proceeded to the area to verify the veracity of the report. Upon arrival thereat, Tandubas MPS successfully rescued the victims of sea mishap and arrested Salasim a.k.a Ben Wagas and they were brought to the police station for interviews and interrogation.

            Initial investigation disclosed that said Indonesian Nationals were kidnapped by seven (7) armed men allegedly ASG members on January 15, 2020 at Tambisan, Sandakan, Sabah while fishing. Investigation further disclosed that originally there were eight (8). However, the three (3) were freed by the kidnappers for unknown reason and the other one died while their kidnappers were engaged in a firefight with AFP troops in Sulu and the other one was separated from them while their Banca was capsized. Accordingly, the ASG members who accompanied them in the motor Banca were five (5) but the other four (4) got separated when their motor banca got capsized.

            In the follow up police operation conducted by police operatives, Bensar Jakari, also known as Enjemar Mankabong, and alleged member of Abu Sayyaf Group was rescued and subsequently arrested.

            Tawi-Tawi PPO assisted by Indonesian Liaison Officer Border Crossing’s Station conducted tactical interview to three rescued Indonesians and they underwent medical examination at IPHO, Tawi-Tawi. The rescued personalities were presented to WESTMINCOM commander and around 2:00 PM of March 19, 2021, they were transported to Zamboanga City on board C-130 Philippine Air Force.

            Meanwhile, the two alleged ASG members underwent follow-up investigation, mug-shot, booking sheet procedure, finger printing, tactical interrogation, medical examination and now under the custody of the Tawi-Tawi police.
