Parang, Maguindanao - Police Brigadier General Samuel P Rodriguez, Regional Director, PRO BAR awarded on December 21, 2020 during the Traditional Monday Flag Raising Ceremony, the "Medalya ng Kadakilaan" to Police Captain Israel Bayaona, Police Master Sergeant Benjamin Sumail Tan, Police Corporal Abdulbayan Kahal Amen, Patrolman Khadaffy Katug Pascan and Patrolman Alvin Mamalo for their noteworthy acts of heroism displayed in defending Datu Piang Municipal Hall and Sta. Teresita Catholic Church when attacked by undetermined numbers of BIFF Local Terrorist Group on December 3, 2020.
The Philippine National Police confers awards and medals on its members in due recognition of outstanding performance. This policy was established by virtue of NAPOLCOM Memorandum Circular No. 93-018 issued by the National Police Commission, dated September 23, 1993, with the subject “Prescribing the Authorized Decorations, Service Medals, Ribbons, and Badges of the Philippine National Police” as amended by NAPOLCOM Memorandum Circular 2006-003 dated November 30, 2006.
In his guidance, PBGen Rodriguez urges PRO BAR personnel to render the highest form of public service. "The giving of awards to the deserving PRO BAR personnel aims to uplift their morale and welfare. This also serves as encouragement to the Bangsamoro police to perform better and made significant contributions to the PNP organization. Our awardees demonstrated heroism and gallantry. They fought bravely and defended the municipality of Datu Piang against this local terror group”, said the PBGen Rodriguez.
The Regional Director also reiterates that police must be the protector of the weak, defender of the innocent, and advocate of human rights.
Meanwhile, the police filed criminal charges of Multiple Frustrated Murder, Destructive Arson and violation of Republic Act No. 11479 also known as Anti-Terrorism Act against 135 members of the BIFF local terrorist group who are responsible for the attack and burning of PNP patrol car in Datu Piang. PRO BAR assures the Datu Piang residents of intensified security measures to prevent similar threats posed by violent extremists in the future.
