            Despite the threat of CORONA Virus, operatives of PRO BAR continuously implement local laws including the Fisheries Code as amended by Republic Act (RA) 10654 ‘’AN ACT TO PREVENT, DETER AND ELIMINATE ILLEGAL, UNREPORTED AND UNREGULATED FISHING, AMENDING REPUBLIC ACT NO. 8550, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS “THE PHILIPPINE FISHERIES CODE OF 1998,” AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES’’.

            The PNP together with the LGU have the duty to determine proper harvest control rule and the management of municipal waters to limit fishing efforts based on the health of the fishing grounds.

            Tuesday, November 17, 2020 five fishing boats namely; Dona Alexa, GMA 8, Lydia DLS, L/B Princess Grace 3 and Amira Fishing Carrier with 86 crews were intercepted in Municipal waters of Languyan, Tawi-Tawi for Violation of Municipal Ordinance No. 02 Series of 2017 (Prohibiting the Illegal Fishing).

             At about 12:30 AM of the aforementioned date, personnel of Languyan MPS received a report from Hon. Winhar Hairil, ABC president of the presence of fishing boats illegally operating in the sea waters of Sitio Banbanan, Brgy. Tumbagaan, Languyan, Tawi-Tawi.

            Immediately, the aforementioned unit together with LGU of Languyan Municipality proceeded to the area. The fishing boats were caught in the act fishing illegally on the territorial waters of Languyan, Tawi-Tawi. The operators of the fishing boats failed to provide proper documents allowing their netting operation, the 86 crews were brought to Languyan MPS for documentation.

            Police Regional Office of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region is protecting the constitutionally guaranteed rights of the marginal fisher folks to the preferential use of their traditional fishing grounds. The protection of the municipal waters of the Bangsamoro region holds great importance to regulate and monitor fishery activities in our municipal waters.
