SIMUNUL, TAWI-TAWI - At least eleven (11) passengers were rescued from a pump boat that capsized and sank in the seawaters off Manuk-Mangkaw, located in Simunul, Tawi-Tawi on October 19, 2020 at around 2 o’clock in the afternoon.

            In the police report of Tawi-Tawi Police Provincial Office to Police Brigadier General Samuel P Rodriguez, Regional Director of Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region revealed that two (2) motorized pump boat named “RONYMAL” with eleven passengers onboard and “Baby Nur” with four passengers onboard, both departed from Barangay Poblacion, Sitangkai on October 19, 2020 going to Bongao, Tawi-Tawi. However, while navigated in the seawater of Manuk-Mangkaw in Simunul, the sea vessels encountered rough seas then capsized and sank after being hit by a powerful wave. The pump boat Ronymal was rescued including its eleven passenger identified as  Dalson Kadil, Habil Kadil, Noralyn Kadil,  Inang Danial, Delma Abdulgafor, Almasil Abdulgafor, Roman Kadil, Alsimal Abdulgafor, Iradzmal Abdulgafor,  Nursilyn Kadil, and Airin Danial.

            However, the pump boat “Baby Nor” could not be located with four missing passengers identified as Jig Abdul, Ajil Abdul, Julhamin Abdul and Raiza Abdul. Joint search and rescue operations by the Philippine Coastguard and PNP Personnel of Simunul Municipal Police Station are still ongoing.

            Likewise, eleven (11) rescued passengers were brought to Barangay Bakong Wharf for immediate medical attention and were taken care and billeted at the residence of the Barangay Chairman of Bakong, Simunul, Tawi-Tawi.

            Meanwhile, Police BGen Rodriguez urges all police units in Tawi-Tawi province to work with concerned authorities in the conduct of search and rescue operations for the missing vessels and four passengers. ###
